LEADERSHIP CONVERSATIONS

Leadership affects all staff at every level. I devise and deliver leadership workshops to help teams and also support senior leaders to develop strategy and deliver organisational change, working with you, your teams and your clients.

Introduction

I stretch the idea of what is meant by leadership, helping people to think about its relevance to staff who are not in formal leadership roles.

Changes in the way that we think about leadership can also lead to changed behaviours to improve performance and services.

For example, I was part of the team who introduced Macmillan Cancer Support’s values-based standard in health and social care, to improve the experience of service users and professionals.

ABOUT ME

Joanne Rule MBE

An experienced chief executive myself, I have also worked at board level and as a trustee. Past Chair of the MHRA Commission of Human Medicine Patient Information Expert Advisory Group, I also co-chaired the National Cancer Equality Initiative from 2008-12, for which I was appointed MBE. Before holding chief executive roles, I was a communication and public affairs professional.

I now bring experience of communication, inclusion and staff and stakeholder engagement to the service of people in senior generalist roles.

I have worked on inclusive leadership projects to improve patient experience, and team development for Mind Yourself and Sheffcare. I shaped and delivered a programme of innovative events in support of Macmillan Cancer Support’s London strategy.

RECOMMENDATION

“Joanne combines strategic insight, coaching techniques and the use of practical approaches, to support teams overcome obstacles. At the heart of her work is the diffusion of leadership and innovation across different staff and job levels. Leadership isn’t just about being at the top!

Joanne was instrumental in bringing together stakeholders across London to support me to develop the ‘cancer-open London strategy,’ the first of its kind.”

Jagtar Dhanda, Head of Inclusion & London Lead, Macmillan Cancer Support
