GROWING MANAGERS

Group leadership coaching for managers, to help them grow in confidence and effectiveness

Time management, coping with stress, how to manage other people, how to influence – these are the challenges managers speak of time and time again

Typically, we get things done at work through having conversations with people, developing relationships and working in teams. These are fundamental skills for any manager.

Our group coaching provides a development format much closer to the workplace than either training or one-to-one coaching. Participants take their learning from working together powerfully as a group, back into the workplace and mirror effective ways of working with their own teams.

OUTCOMES FOR PARTICIPANTS

The training programme is based in Yorkshire and comprises six three-hour sessions held at approximately six-weekly intervals, plus follow up resources and links to leadership articles, models and ideas. The coaching costs £900 inclusive for each participant and runs over eight months, long enough for managers to practice and embed changes at work.

Participants learn together in a confidential setting away from their usual workplace and the diversity of the group offers new ways of seeing and thinking.

  • Understanding of how groups are effective and experience of what works well, including approaches that they will have begun to use as managers with their own teams

  • Understanding of some of the latest leadership thinking – much of which considers a coaching approach – and reflective practice on their own leadership qualities, attributes and behaviour

  • Better understanding of self and others

  • Knowledge of the skills of manager-as-coach which they have begun to use as managers with their own teams

  • Practice in finding their own solutions, developing their own skills and changing their own behaviours

  • A new network of people who can offer support to each other beyond the programme itself

Personal development issues are chosen by the group

By the end of the programme, your group will have the skills to coach colleagues and may choose to continue working together as a self-organising action learning set

ORGANISATIONAL OUTCOMES

  • Because the programme runs over several months, participants embed changed behaviours at work, so that they become ‘how things get done’ around here

  • Return on investment is greater than typically seen from a training course

  • Successful participants think more broadly. They typically make decisions or recommendations that consider all stakeholders and are better for the organisation

  • More resourceful and productive teams are less demanding of senior management time

  • Participants who can see that the organisation is investing in their career development feel valued, a key factor in retaining your staff.
